I'm planning on adding support for past and private events, but I'm a little hesitant about an API for adding events... The idea was that you'll only add events that you're interested in attending, so the site becomes a moderated list of events: filtering out all the crap. I'm not sure the site would be useful if it was completely comprehensive. What do you think?

Yeah, I can see your point. Right now, the higher barrier of entry might make sure only the best of events get in, but at the same time, the site seems to be at a point where it's trying to increase usage, and so the easier it is for me to say that I'm going to the American Starlet show, the more likely I am to say that I am. For events that are input into the system through an API, it doesn't have to automatically sign you up for those events. They're just there for consumption (should someone want to go), much like the list of venues currently are. The events that people sign up for will stil be the filtered, useful, moderated list of events that you're after.

Interesting. I wrote about this subject too a while back...still playing a little with eventsherpa and poiling everything inot upcoming.org in the meantime.
